Wandering around cyberspace again

Image result for quizzical     And looking for ways to get a menu of pages to show up at the top of the homepage. So far unsuccessful. Although I was warned at some point in my search that menus may not go with my chosen theme. Hmmm... Maybe it's time to change that anyway. Further updates to follow.

iPod wristwatch

...actually, it's the new Nano, but it does have a clip to fix a strap to.

Shelfari vid again

Shelfari talks about OpenSocial Networks

Just joined Shelfari. Here's a vid of the founders.
I've also started up a readers' group for my students at AUAF. Let's see if we can get blogging on books and articles. One a day, people!

Oops. Well trying to add writing to the YouTube/Blogger link destroyed the vid link. The next post (above) was published straight from the YouTube page, successfully, as you can see. Hmmm... I'd like to be able to add text to this link.  I'll play and let you know when I get it.

Herat is still standing

For some reason, I'd got the impression that the wonders of Herat had been totally flattened. I was wrong. Thank goodness. I have pics to prove it.

Spent Id ul Fitr in Herat; far from the Kabuli traffic and potholes. There are even functioning traffic lights. Some drivers have even noticed them. Marvellous.

Friday mosque erected by the Horrids; tilework restored a couple of centuries later by those extraordinary Timurids (Shah Rukh and The Lovely Jewel). Ansari's Shrine and Jami's Tomb. Many concrete animals, especially fountains.

We were very fortunate in having a student to take us around and keep us safe. The MarcoPoloHotel is a comic riot. I loved it. The two Yas restaurants are also recommended. A very refreshing weekend.

Arrived in Kabul

Arrived on 5 August to start work in Kabul at AUAF in Darulaman Road. Visited Darulaman Palace (ruins of, pic left) early on.

Settling in, getting used to living in a guesthouse, sharing kitchen between 3 of us, and a house between between about 18.

I think. Anyway, see earlier in this blog for the precise name. I have no way to reduce pics to e-mailable (to upload here) proportions at the moment. Working on it.
As you'll see from Twitter, currently in Mérida. Astounding.
In other news: Timoti called from Hyderabad.
